Following a vote held parallel to the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 24 2008 Ms Vera Sessina RUS was elected to the FIG Athletes Commission. At the 2007 World Championships in Patras (GRE), Vera Sessina placed second in the All-Around competition winning the Rope Ribbon and Team competitions.

The ultimate member of the FIG Athletes Commission for the 2009-2012 cycle will be elected at the 21st Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships in Glasgow this October.

The FIG Athletes Commission consists of six members issued from six different federations. Each is a representative of a different competitive discipline and is elected from among his or her fellow gymnasts. Elections are held for Olympic disciplines at the Olympic Games and at the World Championships during the Olympic year for all other disciplines.
