The biennial FILA Congress took place in Beijing on the occasion of the Olympic Games. It was perfectly organized by the Chinese Wrestling Federation and it adopted all reports and working programs for the next years.

One third of the Executive Committee and the FILA President were re-eligible. The FILA President in office, Mr. Raphaël Martinetti got re-elected by acclamation for another 6-year term. Mr. Tomiaki Fukuda (JPN), Mr. Csaba Hegedus (HUN), Mr. Mikhail Mamiashvili (RUS), and Mr. Tzeno Tzenov (BUL) got also re-elected as FILA Bureau members. The former vice-President, Mr. Theodoros Hamakos (GRE) was replaced by Mr. Akhroldjan Ruziev (UZB) before being appointed as FILA Honorary member. 

The Congress also recognized new National Federations, bringing the total number of affiliated members to 165, and acknowledged the great work of modernization and development of wrestling accomplished by FILA these past few years.
