The BWF council at its December meeting decided to recruit three new senior staff for the organization and to upgrade the KL and Lausanne offices.
Stuart Borrie was most recently the Executive Director of Badminton Australia and brings to the BWF an extensive background in the sports industry in senior management roles organizational development and multi-sport event management
Stuart originally from New Zealand has lived in Australia for 19 years and has lived and worked in various parts of the world.
Eraj Wijesinghe, Chair of the Selection Panel, stated that the applicants interviewed were of a high caliber and the final selection was not an easy one. He further stated that Stuart has the necessary experience and proven skills for the job.
The appointment follows a major strategic review of BWF operations. Following consideration of a major report prepared during 2007 changes are being made to the office and the BWF Committee structure. Council has targeted a number of priorities including the website upgrading the accounting systems and building the business of the sport Development remains a key objective of the sport.
The BWF will soon start the interview phase for the BWF Director of Development which will be based in the BWF office in Lausanne, Switzerland. This is a new position and supports the BWF Councils strategy of having a more significant presence in Lausanne home of the IOC and a range of International Sports Federations.
